Donald Ouwenga's Obituary
Services for Donald Ouwenga, 88, of Longview will be held at 10a.m. Tuesday, February 17, at Trinity Baptist Church in Longview. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Oak Hill, Texas. He died February 13, 2009 at a local nursing home.
Donald was born March 20, 1920 in Alsip, Illinois. he and his older brother Clarence, owned and operated the family vegetable farm in Blue Island, Illinois before moving to Manteno, Illinois in 1958. He continued vegetable farming until moving to Longview, Texas in 1970. Growing tomatoes was his specialty. He then raised cattle and later worked for Texas Utilities before retiring. He was a devout Christian and a member of Trinity Baptist Church.
Donald was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Hilda Ouwenga; sister, Mildred Ouwenga; brother, James Ouwenga; grandson, Mark Allen Ouwenga; and stepgranddaughter, Christine Linndow Wadlington.
He is survived by his present wife, Mary Ouwenga; son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Ginger Ouwenga of Findlay, Ohio; daughter and son-in-law, Marilyn and David Lindow of Longview, Texas; son and daughter-in-law, David and Rhonda Ouwenga of Overton, Texas; grandchildren, Karen and Carol Ouwenga of Findlay, Ohio; Erik and wife Holly Lindow of Longview, Texas;Alan and wife Misty of Lindow of Hallsville, Texas; and Nathan Ouwenga of Overton, Texas; and eight great-grandchildren.
