He entered the Army in 1943 and served during World War II in the 79th Combat Engineer Regiment. During the war, Don participated in the invasions of New Guinea and the Philippines. In 1965, after many years of working in various management positions with Skelly Oil Company and Champlin Oil Company, Don moved to Longview and entered the real estate business, eventually forming Don Lowrey Real Estate, which he operated until his retirement in 1987. Don attended the First Christian Church in Longview, where he served as a deacon and as an active member of the Cornerstone Sunday School class. In addition to his church activities, Don was a former member of the Longview Lions Club and was active in the Longview Board of Realtors and the VFW. Most of all, Don was a man of high principles. He taught his family many life lessons, from the importance of a firm handshake to the benefits of hard work. He will truly be missed. Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Phyllis C. Lowrey.
