Donald Wayne Burns
Donald “Duck” Burns, 77, of Longview, won his eight year battle with Alzheimer’s on June 10, 2015. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 12, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Rader Funeral Home, Longview. The following morning will be graveside services at Cave Springs Cemetery in Linden, TX at 10:00 a.m. CR 1619,
Donald was born October 31, 1937, in Linden, TX. Donald graduated from Linden High School and then went to Texarkana College. He was a gifted football player and quarterback.
Donald went to work at Lone Star Steel in 1966 and retired after 35 years. Donald was a member of Elmira Chapel Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
He loved fishing at Caddo Lake and Lake of the Pines with wife and two sons. He loved going to all sports events for his two sons and four grandchildren. Their “Papa” was their greatest fan and loved them dearly.
Special thanks to lifelong friend, Boyce Wells and wife Charlotte for the many trips to Arkansas, going way beyond normal friendships by just “being there”. He truly enjoyed family and friends, gatherings and cooking fish and barbequing for them.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Edye and James Burns; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Wilford Penny; and brother, Glen Burns.
Donald is survived by his wife of 57 years, Wanda; two sons, Don Burns and wife Teri and Darren Burns and wife Angelia of Longview. His four grandchildren, Taylor Burns Cloud and husband Brett, Hayden Burns, and Dalton and Alexis Burns; and great grandson Aiden. His sister, Bobby and husband Kenneth Hamilton and sister-in-law, Janell Burns and all nieces and nephews.
