Don W. Fein's Obituary
Memorial services for Reverend Don W. Fein , 89, will be held 1 PM Monday, January 31st at the First Christian Church in Longview with Revs. Phil Jones and Dan Thuma officiating. Reverend Fein, a resident of Longview since 1983, died Wednesday, January 26th at a Bedford, Texas hospital.
He was born March 9, 1915 in Alliance, Ohio to Fred C. and Minnie Wilson Fein. He graduated in 1937 from Mount Union College in Alliance with majors in Bible and geology. While a student, he was awarded a prize for Biblical Studies and served as a lab assistant in the Geology Department. He then attended Lexington Theological Seminary in Lexington, Kentucky 1937 to 1940 and graduated with a Bachelor of Divinity degree. Reverend Fein was ordained at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ on April 25, 1937 in Alliance, Ohio. On June 14, 1939, he married Eleanor Louise Judge who died in 1997.
Reverend Fein served as Director of Religious Education at the Elmstreet Christian Church in Greensboro, NC, The Union Avenue Christian Church in St. Louis, the Christian Church in Owensboro, Kentucky, the Central Christian Church at Decatur, IL and the East Dallas Christian Church in Dallas, TX. He became the pastor of the Irving North Christian Church which grew from 100 members to 550 members and later served as senior minister at the Bear Grass Christian Church in Louisville, KY. When he moved to Longview, he became the administrator of the Longview Christian Retirement Center and the minister at the Gum Springs Christian Church. He also served as interim minister at several Louisiana and Texas churches. Reverend Fein retired in 1980.
He is survived by a daughter, Penny Greer of Bedford, Texas and two granddaughters: Christi Thompson of Watauga, Texas and Holly Flock of Keller, Texas.
