Don L. Upton's Obituary
Funeral services for Don Leroy Upton, age 87 Henderson, will be held Tuesday January 9, 2018 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with Rev. David Gatlin officiating. Military honors will be bestowed at the gravesite at Rusk County Memorial Gardens. Don was born May 11, 1930 in Wichita, Kansas to Donavan C and Margaret Upton, and died Friday January 5, in Henderson.
Don retired from the U.S Navy after 20 years as a carrier pilot during the Korean and Viet Nam war conflicts. He flew 41 different aircraft during that time. After his retirement from the Navy he was a pipeline patrol pilot for 10 years. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 4002, Don helped to organize the 4002 Honor Guard, Don also served as the Post Commander for 1 year.
Don is survived by his wife of 20 years Sylvia of Henderson, his children Debbie Don, Candy and Mark, also surviving are 8 grandchildren,16 great grandchildren, also Sylvia’s 5 children, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 1pm ~2pm Tuesday at the Funeral Home before the service .
