Don J. Manning
Mass of Christian burial for Don J. Manning, 76, of Longview, will be held at Noon Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church with the Father Martin Gerber officiating. A rosary will be recited at the Church prior to the service at 11:40 AM. Entombment will follow in the Memory Park Mausoleum under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Tuesday evening, March 1, 2005 at the funeral home, 1617 Judson Road.
Mr. Manning was born on October 7, 1928 in Yoakum, Texas to Luey Raymond and Annie Celina Manning. He married Viola Schriefer in Yoakum, TX on August 5, 1950. He passed away on February 27, 2005 in a Longview hospital.
Mr. Manning had been a Texas Real Estate Broker since 1957 and had lived in Longview since 1962. He was a member of numerous civic organizations including: the Longview Board of Realtors; Texas Association of Realtors; National Association of Realtors; The National Association of Real Estate Appraisers CCRA; The International Right of Way Association; The Realtors Marketing Institute; and the Longview Chamber of Commerce. While being actively involved in these many organizations, he held offices in several of them in the past, including: Past Director of Longview Board of Realtors; Past President of Longview Board of Realtors; Past Director of Texas Association of Realtors; Past Vice President of Texas Association of Realtors; Past Director & Charter Member of East Texas Apartment Association; Past President of East Texas Apartment Association; Past Director of Texas Apartment Association; Past Director of East Texas Home Builders Association; and was the Past Director of Longview Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Manning especially loved his family and friends and enjoyed the outdoors and camping. He never met a stranger and was a very generous person. His hobby was researching family history.
A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Mr. Manning was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alfred Manning, Leonard Manning, William Manning; sisters, Edna Manning, Ora Tucker and husband Leland; brothers-in-law, James McNeese, Lawrence Schriefer, and Joe Lazyone. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Viola Manning of Longview; Children, Donna Garlock and husband, Rick of Coppell, Diana Sorensen and husband, Don of Coon Rapids, MN., Gary Don Manning and wife, Nancy of Longview, grandchildren, Jonathan Banks, Wesley Garlock, Erik Sorensen, Kirk Sorensen, Easton Sorensen, Nikki O?Bryant, and Garrett Manning; sisters, Eileen McNeese, Annie Lou Synnott and her husband Cliff; Brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Callie Manning, Doug Manning, Aileen Manning, Eileen McNeese, Wilbert Schriefer and wife Jane, Doris Schriefer, Clarence Schriefer and wife Mary Lee, Ruby Mozingo and husband Roy, and Eunice Lazyone. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family members.
