Dolores "Mama D" Richardson's Obituary
On Wednesday August 6th, 2025, Nancy Dolores Richardson, better known as “Mama D”, went to her heavenly home. Dolores was born in Betty Tx on August 2nd, 1932. She is preceded by the love of her life Rigdon Richardson, her parents Helen and David Pickler, her brother Bobby Jack, and her sister Wanda. Along with many more since she was able to bless us with 93 years.
She is survived by her children who were her world, Sandra Carrol, David Richardson and his wife Katrina, Nancy Denise and her husband Bryan. Her SIX grandchildren, Mechelle and her husband David, Jerry Don who was her Mr. Fix-it and her talking buddy every Wednesday, Kristin and her husband Bo, Josh Fuller, Falin and her husband Dylan, and Shawn and his wife Zoe. Then comes her precious great grandchildren, Alicia, Orion, Max, Lincoln, Jace, Jett and Skoul. She equally loved them all!
Heaven gained the most loving, positive, and hardworking soul that day. I am positive she is already looking for something to keep her busy. I am also certain the joy she felt finally felt being back with her husband, our Papa, was better than we could even imagine. She married Rig in 1950 and every story we ever heard was a love story. She loved to travel the world with her best friend and confidant, her mother Helen, her sister Wanda, her cousin Dela and her Aunt May. We have hundreds of stories of their adventures, and she always would tell us to make sure vacationing was always on our to do list. She also loved to share the mischievous stories of her brother, Bobby Jack. Family was everything to her and her family was who she shared her life with the most.
Everyone knew her as “Mama D” and the D at first stood for Dolores of course, but we all know the “D” actually stood for, “don’t tell me I can’t or won’t do something, because I will.” She was a DOER. If she decided she wanted to refurbish a dresser, she would. We would always find her doing something, making a way. And never really asking for help until these past couple of years. She had a major passion for books, thousands of books!
But one of her most treasured legacies is her love for making quilts. They were truly art! Everyone was always in awe with how she could put the tiniest patterns together and have the patience of Job making them. There is not a family member, or friend, who doesn’t have a quilt handmade from Mama D.
Mama D loved with her whole heart, she wanted everyone to be happy, and she always told you how much she loved you. If you asked a hundred people who Dolores Richardson was, you would get the same answer, “loving, soft spoken, hardworking, kindhearted, and gentle”. Honestly, we could write for days with all the loving memories we will cherish and things we will miss about her. We rejoice knowing she is finally walking pain free, vibrant and full of energy. She will be missed tremendously by ALL who knew her and loved her. But we know for a fact that it is not goodbye, but “see you later”.
Visitation will take place on Monday August 11th, 2025 at 11 a.m.
