Dollie Louise Butler Delzell's Obituary
Dollie Louise Butler Delzell, age 85, was peacefully embraced by the loving arms of her Savior on Saturday, November 15, 2003. Dollie was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Woodward ?Woody? Delzell and her grandson, Woodward Thomas Malone. Dollie was born March 6, 1918 in Picher, OK, to Mary Ella and Reverend Jesse U. Butler. She grew up in Springfield, MO, and lived most of her life in Dallas, TX before she and her husband moved to Longview, TX. Dollie was a self-taught musician, playing several instruments including piano and organ, without ever reading a note of music.
Dollie always had a song in her heart and a smile on her face and she loved entertaining people. As a teenager, Dollie sang on the radio in Springfield, MO. Later, she used her talents doing volunteer work; playing for nursing homes and the Veterans Hospital in Dallas, and a nursing home and homeless mission in Longview. She played the organ at several churches and sang in church choirs during her lifetime. Dollie was also a member of the Eastern Star. Before moving to Longview, Dollie retired from the Bank of the Southwest in Oak Cliff. She is survived by her sister, Lorene Maynard and her husband, John; her son, Mike Delzell and his wife, Janice; her daughter, Dollie Golden and her husband, Roger; her daughter, Kaye Lotman and her husband, Vernon; 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Services for Dollie Delzell will be held 2 PM Tuesday, November 18, 2003 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home, 1617 Judson Rd., with Reverend David Lawson officiating. Interment will follow in White Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Monday evening , November 17, 2003 from 6-8 PM.
