Rev. Doctor W. A. Rawlins' Obituary
The Reverend Doctor William Alfred Rawlins was born in Ennis, Texas on September 7, 1930 and died on December 21, 2015 in Longview, Texas, where he had made his home for the last 43 years.
His parents were Leslie Rawlins and Evelyn Henson Rawlins.
Dr. Rawlins graduated from Rhodes College, Memphis, and the Cumberland Presbyterian Seminary, McKenzie, Tennessee. He received his Doctor of Sacred Theology from Perkins Theological Seminary, SMU.
In June of 1953, he was ordained as a minister in the Cumberland Presbyterian Church and married Dorothy McLeskey.
His ministry led him to serve five churches.
He is survived by three daughters; Janet Morrow, Kathleen Greene and Mary Helen Kelm, and seven grandchildren.
Bill’s hobbies as a young man included camping, hunting and fishing. Later his special pleasures were feeding the birds, raising flowers, enjoying his Sheltie dogs and traveling abroad.
Many remember Bill as a great preacher and a fine pastor. His family remembers him as a loving and fun-loving Father. His wife is thankful for 63 years of marriage to this wonderful, brilliant and loving Christian man.
Friends are welcome to join the family for a time of visitation from 6pm-8pm Monday December 28, 2015 at Rader Funeral Home in Longview. Funeral services will be the next day, Tuesday December 29, 2015 at Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Longview. Interment will follow services at Rosewood Park.
