Dixie Dee Hinton's Obituary
Dixie D. Hinton of Longview ,TX passed away February 22, 2021 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Dixie was born January 29, 1934 in Hollene NM to Deleon and Opal Campbell. She graduated from Rosedale High School and attended ENMU in Portales where she met the love of her life, John G. Hinton. They were married June 7, 1953. John was in the army which allowed them to move numerous times during their early years together. They finally made roots in Lovington, NM where they raised their three children. Dixie received her teaching degree from the College of the Southwest and taught school in New Mexico, Texas and in the Dhaka International School overseas. In 1979, she and John moved to Texas where they owned and operated Sarsaparilla Steakhouse. They later moved overseas to Bangladesh where they traveled extensively before returning to Texas.
Dixie was preceded in death by her husband John of 44 years, her parents and her brother Sam Q. Campbell. She is survived by her daughter Janet Lynn Duffey and husband James of Roswell NM, sons-John Curtis Hinton of Austin TX and Jay Craig Hinton and wife Kelley of Diana TX. Five grandchildren survive her - Janelle Duffey of Clovis NM, Jason Duffey and Jennifer of Roswell NM, Jenee Rossum and Jovane of Diana Tx, Joshua Hinton and Lyndee of Tyler TX and Holly Brown and Robert of Longview TX. 9 great grandchildren also survive her. Dixie was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Longview TX.
Memorial services will be held Saturday March 6, 10 am at the Rader Funeral Home , Longview TX. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Whispering Pines Lodge for their kindness and care of Dixie while living there.
