Dewayne F. Bruce's Obituary
Dewayne F. Bruce, 78, went to be with his Lord with family by his side on March 13, 2018. Dewayne is preceded in death by his sons Kevin, Roy and Steven, his parents and his brother Roy. Dewayne is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Glenda Bruce. He is also survived by son, Kirk Bruce and wife Hollie, grandsons Colin Bruce, Cade Bruce, Josh Bruce, Jeremy Bruce, granddaughter Brandy Bruce and mother-in-law Inez Deutsch.
Dewayne was raised in White Oak, Texas, where he played on the high school basketball team, winning the State Championship in 1957. Dewayne spent 30 years in the beer business as Vice President and General Manager of R&K Distributors and Sales Manager at Rothrock Sales. He was also an entrepreneur. He was the proprietor of Schwinn Bicycle Shops in Longview, Marshall and Nacogdoches in the 1970s and ‘80s. Finally, along with his wife Glenda, he owned and operated Bruce’s Bar-B-Que Kountry in Hallsville until he retired in 2013.
In his active years, Dewayne was an avid tennis player and golfer. He was a loyal friend and loved his family dearly. Later in life, he loved watching his grandsons play baseball, basketball and golf. And he never missed an opportunity to watch Texas A&M Aggie sports with them.
Dewayne and Glenda would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 19 of this year.
If you asked Dewayne, he would tell you that he had a wonderful sense of humor. He lived life to the fullest and was never boring. Certainly, it can be said that DeWayne “did it his way”.
The family would like to sincerely thank HeartsWay Hospice and Heritage Healthcare Center for their care and compassion.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 15 at 2:00 pm at Grace Hill Cemetery in Longview.
