Derwood J. Smelley, Sr.
Graveside services for Derwood J. Smelley, Sr. 66, of Overton formerly of Longview will be held at Two 0'clock pm Friday May 7, 2010 at the Crain-Smelley Cemetery with Reverend Charles Paschall officiating. Burial will follow at Crain-Smelley Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Smelley passed away Tuesday May 4, 2010 in Overton.
He was born October 17, 1943 in Longview, Texas to A. J. and Opal Wood Smelley. He was a retired Cattle Buyer and heavy equipment operator with Apache Oilfield Co. He was a Baptist. He was also the Co-Founder of Soft Task Charity
He is survived by his wife Jodie Smelley , daughters, Lorrie Suddeth, Michelle and Eli Smith, Stephanie Bussey, nine grandchildren, Stuart and Michael Scott Suddeth, Brittany, David and Parker Smith, DJ and Taylor Smelley, Jacob Benson and Taten Bussey, brothers, A.J. and Sandy Smelley, Jack and Glenna Smelley, David and Wilma Smelley, John Paul and Judy Smelley, sisters, Ruth Ann and Jimmy Young, Cathy Howard and Martha Jenkins, numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents A.J. and Opal Smelley, son, Derwood Jay Smelley, Jr. sister, Joy Sears.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday May 6, 2010 from 6-8 pm.
