LaMaster and his wife Grace of Longview, TX, son Leland J. LaMaster and his wife Eve of Houston, TX, daughter Joy LaMaster of Eureka, CA. Included in his surviving children is his youngest son Jonathan LaMaster, whom he had with his late wife Virginia, and Jonathan's wife Justine of Longview, TX. Mr LaMaster is also survived by the mother of his 4 oldest children, Shirley Gilbert.
Other survivors include beloved 18 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, relatives, friends and family.
Mr LaMaster was born on June 26, 1935 in Purcell, OK When he was a young boy the family migrated during the infamous Dust Bowl to the Sacramento Valley area to pick fruit in the farming town of Marysville, CA. That is where he grew up and married. Dennis worked his way back to East Texas to work at Lone Star Steel in 1968 then retired from Lone Star Steel in the late 1990's. Dennis was dedicated in the Shipping Department as a heavy equipment operator. He was well liked by his co- workers who knew him as a light hearted man who made work enjoyable.
He loved his family and was defined by them as a gentle, kind father, grandfather and great grandfather who valued honesty and hard work as virtues. "Papaw Dad" was blunt with his opinion, a trait he inherited from his mother, and apparently never saw the need to change this "quality". But he was also balanced with a dry wit and constant humor that came from his father. This served him well to balance his qualities and he was often found smiling or laughing at his own jokes.
His middle name was given to him at birth by his older sister Elsie who, when asked what name should be given, replied, "He is born in June so that should be his name" and thus the initial "J." was preferred until his children and grandchildren found the charming name to fit him well.
The LaMaster family would like to give special thanks for the staff and friends of Windsor Place Nursing Home of Daingerfield, TX.
Funeral services will be 11am, Thursday, November 17, 2016 in the mausoleum at Rosewood Park in Longview. Visitation will start 1 hour prior to service time in the mausoleum.
