Delina "Lena" Begley's Obituary
Delina “Lena” Begley passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 26, 2023 at the age of 82 in Longview, Texas after a long illness.
Lena is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Kathy and Jim Stark, three granddaughters and a grandson-in-law; Grace and Nick Kendrick, Hannah Stark, and Charlotte Stark, her brother Alfred Roquemore as well as a number of cousins and nieces and nephews. Lena also leaves behind many wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Glenn Begley, her sons Glenn Begley, Jr., and Tim Begley, her mother Lois Wilson, her father, Cecil Roquemore, her sisters; Rose Gaddis, Lois Clement, Maxine Barthlolomew, Wanda Gomez, and Laura Webb, and her brother, John Roquemore.
Lena was born on December 31, 1940 in El Paso, Texas. As a child the family moved to Contra Costa County, California where she met and married Glenn Begley in 1956 and together they had three children: Glenn Jr., Tim, and Kathy. The family moved to Longview, Texas in 1974. In 1988 Glenn and Lena returned to California. They lived in Antioch, California until 1994 and then moved to Rochelle, Illinois, then Modesto, California. They moved back to Longview in 2000 after the birth of their first grandchild.
Lena was an active member of Greggton Methodist Church where she was a part of the women’s prayer group. She enjoyed playing bridge with her friends and spending time with her granddaughters. Lena’s family hopes she is remembered for her kindness, love of her friends and family, and faith in the Lord.
A memorial service for Lena and her son, Tim, will be held at Greggton Methodist Church in Longview, Texas on October 21, 2023 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
