Dawn Sosland
Dawn Sosland, beloved wife, sister, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 14, 2011, in Dallas, with family at her side. Dawn was born on July 20, 1931, in Sioux City, Iowa, to Leah and Morris Sperling. She graduated from Fairfax High School in Los Angeles and attended UCLA. At her sister Serene's wedding in 1951, Dawn met the love of her life, Jay Sosland, and they married in 1952 and began their family in California. After Jay's discharge from the Navy, Dawn moved with Jay back to his family roots in Longview, Texas, where they raised a family and lived happily together for 50 years until Jay's passing in 2002. She was an active member of Temple Emanu-El in Longview, serving as a youth group advisor, sisterhood officer and board member. She was a constant and active supporter of her children's activities and served on numerous occasions as a room mother and PTA officer. Dawn moved to Dallas in 2002 and made many friends in her new home at the Classic, where she lived until last year. Dawn is survived by her sister Serene Lazar, brother Shalmy Sperling, children Marty and Karen Sosland, Shalene Sosland, Steve and Kelly Sosland, Erica and Bill Prager and Jayna Sosland and Allen Hearne, and grandchildren Elissa Sosland, Marshall Sosland, Rachel Sosland, Rebekah Sosland, Leah Prager and Jason Prager. Graveside services will be held at Memory Park Cemetery in Longview at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 16. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Temple Emanu-El, 1205 Eden Drive, Longview, TX. Friends are invited to attend.
