David Williams Houck
David Williams Houck, 87, of Longview, Texas, left this earth for his heavenly home on Monday, July 29, 2013. David, commonly called "Dave" by many, was a loved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was born on October 3, 1925, in Cordova, South Carolina, where he grew up with his parents, Jerry L. and Maud Williams Houck and three brothers and two sisters. David was a three year Marine veteran of World War II and thereafter came to Longview, Texas, attending and graduating from then LeTourneau Technical Institute in June 1951. Shortly thereafter he returned to Sumter South Carolina and married his beloved Dora Wells on June 27, 1951.
David and Dora Houck returned to Longview, Texas and were married 62 years. During that time they were blessed with two children, Phil and Brenda. David and Dora joined and were lifelong members of Wesley-McCabe United Methodist Church in Longview, Texas with David working for nearly thirty years and retiring from Texas Eastman in April of 1986.
Hard work and labor were no stranger to David and he had no fear of it. He was a kind person of clear decision and disciplined qualities, grateful and loyal to God the Father and Jesus Christ the Son, and his family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry L. Houck and Maud Williams Houck; his sisters, Sybil Houck Riley and Ann Houck Wilson of the Sumter, South Carolina area; and two of his three brothers, Jerry Lewis Houck, Jr. and Jacob Melvin Houck. David is survived by his beloved wife, Dora; his children, son, Phil Houck and wife, Rondah Houck, of Gilmer, Texas and daughter, Brenda Houck Brannon and husband, Dwight Brannon of Gilmer, Texas; his grandchildren, Andrew Brannon of Dallas; Crystal McCord Oliver of Diana; and Jack McCord of Longview; and great granddaughter, Kiera Oliver; his brother, Elbert Houck of Lexington, South Carolina and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Memorial services for David Houck will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Wesley-McCabe United Methodist Church, 1115 South Mobberly Avenue, Longview, with the Reverend Virginia Wall officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
