David Robert Appel's Obituary
Memorial services for David Robert Appel of Longview, will be at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 16, 2003, in the Rader Funeral Home Chapel, 1617 Judson Rd., with Reverend Jonathan Jehorek officiating.
Mr. Appel was born April 27, 1923, in Denver, Colorado to Leslie and Irene Appel. He passed away Tuesday, October 14, 2003, at his home. He was a Longview resident for 26 years.
Mr. Appel was a graduate of Purdue University where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Metallurgical Engineering. He also received his Masters Degree from California Institute of Technology. He was a member of the United States Air Force during World War II.
His professional career included management positions with CF&I Steel in Pueblo, Colorado, Blaw Knox Foundry in East Chicago, Indiana, Lone Star Steel and Conroe Pipe in Texas. Following retirement, he engaged in International consulting in the Tubular Pipe Industry. While in Colorado, he officiated football for the Rocky Mountain Football Association. He was a member of the American Iron & Steel Institute, American Petroleum Institution, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity and Pinecrest Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Dorothy Garretson Appel; a daughter, Julie Appel Parker of Munster, Indiana; a son, Stephen Appel and daughter-in-law, Patricia Appel of Winter Park, Florida, five grandchildren, brother, Barry Appel and sister, Elizabeth Horner both of Denver, Co.
