David L. Perkins' Obituary
David L. Perkins, 79, died on April 9, 2026, in Longview after a long battle with dementia. He was born October 15, 1946 in Memphis, Tennessee to S.L. Perkins and Cathryn Cassibry Perkins.
After years of moving following his father’s career, the family settled in Atlanta, Georgia.
After high school, David enlisted in the Air Force, at the age of 18, where he served in Thailand and Viet Nam. He was very proud of his service.
In 1969 he returned to Atlanta where he met his Glenda. Four months later they were married. A marriage that lasted for 56 years. Soon after their marriage he began to earn his degree and graduated from Georgia State University.
In 1977 David and Glenda moved to Longview. He was eager to begin his work as a salesman for an industrial chemical company. She was not thrilled but soon came to love their life here. They welcomed their precious son Adam in 1981.
They joined Winterfield United Methodist Church in 1983 and were active members.
David had a special love for scouting and was active in Troop 620 for many years. It ended only when he was no longer able to participate as he wanted. His interest never waned and his caring for his scouts was always there.
David was an avid golfer another much loved activity. He loved barbecuing chickens for friends and family. He made enough fudge at Christmas to feed Longview, delivering it to our doctors’ offices, pharmacists, family, friends and it was surprising he didn’t hand it out on a street corner. It was just a special thing he liked to do.
David was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Leon, sisters Ann and Susan and his beloved son Adam. He is survived by his wife Glenda, extended family and friends.
Services will be held at 3pm, Wednesday, April 15, at Rader Funeral Home in Longview with a time of visit, which will start at 2pm.
