David Koerner's Obituary
David John Koerner, 69 of Longview TX, passed away Friday, August 23, 2024 at Mother Francis Hospital in Tyler. Memorial Services will be at 3:00 p.m., September 7, 2024 at Fellowship Bible Church located at 4600 McCann Rd in Longview TX. Brother-in-law and local pastor, Lee Berger will officiate.
David was born in Dunedin, Florida on June 4, 1955, to George Henry Koerner, Sr. and Audrey Madeline Hicks Koerner. He and his brother, George (Gary) Henry Koerner, Jr. grew up in Florida and California. After college, David began working with his dad in the family masonry business and eventually began his own masonry business after he moved to Longview in 1975 as a third-generation brick mason. His grandfather started the masonry business in Germany before he immigrated to the United States. David later became involved in the commercial masonry business and then in the mid 80’s started building homes. David had a long career building speculative and custom homes in the Longview area.
After his move from Florida to Longview in 1975, he met and married Donna Mae Berger. They were married 47 years.
David and his brother Gary became avid surfers. A group of surfers, including his brother Gary started a “just for fun” business called Superior Surfboards that built and sold surfboards. David helped develop Surfcam, a website with a webcam that monitored the surf conditions in Surfside, Texas, which was his most common surfing location. Another hobby he loved, and many enjoyed, was making pizza from scratch.
David was preceded in death by his mother, Audrey Koerner, his father, George Koerner and his brother Gary Koerner.
Those who are left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna, his sister-in-law Monica Koerner, his nephew, Ryan Koerner and wife Melanie Koerner of California, as well as Donna’s siblings and spouses, mother, nephews and their wives and great nephews.
