Jerrell Huffman's Obituary
Memorial services for Jerrell Huffman, 85, of Longview will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday May 16, 2015, at the First Methodist Church with the Reverend Roy James officiating. Mr. Huffman passed away Wednesday May 13, 2015.
Jerrell was born in Longview, Texas on June 11, 1929 to Alice Grammer Huffman and David Dee Huffman. He graduated from Judson High School, Kilgore College and BMI. He was proud to be a Judson Blue Devil, and equally proud to be a Longview Lobo. He retired from Southwestern Power Company after 43 years and during his employment he made many lifelong friends. In his role at SWEPCO he worked closely with the officials of the City of Longview and Gregg County.
During his life he was active and many different community organizations including the Judson Lions Club, Longview Kiwanis Club, LeTourneau College Associates, United Way, Longview Chamber of Commerce, James Mason Hallsville Lodge #169, and the Grand Chapter of the Texas Order of the Eastern Star. He was a charter member of the Judson Lions Club and a life time member of the Texas Lions Camp. Jerrell also served on the Tryon Road Water SUD Board and the Gregg County Appraisal Review Board.
He enjoyed bird hunting and fishing and watching his bird dogs work. The time he spent hunting in West Texas was very special to him.
When his children were young he actively participated in 4H and FFA as well as coached many baseball teams. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his children and their friends during those activities and cherished those memories.
Jerrell counted his blessings to have had a wonderful wife for 63 years and the love of a devoted daughter and loving son. Spending time with his granddaughters was one of the greatest joys of his life and the time he spent with them were some of his favorite times. He also has many wonderful memories of the special times he shared with his brothers and their wives.
Jerrell is survived by his daughter and son in law, Becky and Mike Killingsworth of Longview, two brothers and their wives, Charles and Billie Anne Huffman and Paul and Henrietta Huffman; his five granddaughters Christi and Clint Chapman, Allison and James Bateman, Catherine Huffman, Staci Killingsworth Perez and Ryan Perez, Cari and John Tom Heatly, and nine great grandchildren; three nephews, cousins and many loving friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 63 wonderful years Bette Jo Huffman, his son John David Huffman and daughter in law Carol Mitchell Huffman.
