I learned about the passing on May 16th of my longtime friend and business collaborator of over 35 years, David Crowley. David and my company, Emmert International, collaborated on many projects over many years. Upon receiving the news of David’s passing, I recalled the passage written by Ernest Hemingway in his epic novel “For Whom the Bell Tolls” Mr. Hemingway wrote: “No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main…. Any man’s death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind, and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee.” I am truly diminished by David’s passing. I recalled all of the great times I spent with David punctuated by laughter at the stories we told each other. I had the great good fortune of hosting David about a month ago at my home in Oregon. I have that memory of our recent times together which reminds me that I should always find the time to be with family and friends.
