I learned today of Dave's passing and that was only in telling someone of his heart for touching other's lives as they faced the challenges that accompany cancer. I believe Dave stayed around to give just one more person hope. He did this over and over until the Lord must have said, WELL DONE MY GOOD AND FAITHFUL SERVANT! To think of Dave and Patsy always brings a smile to my face. He did love his sweetheart. They were a team. I remember seeing Dave at a Springhill football game many years ago and he said, "Janis, I want you to meet my wife". He was so proud. He was one of few people who would have called me Janis because only by having Seminole roots would anyone have that bit of triva. Although your family doesn't know me personally, Mr. Henderson touched my family through my 2 bouts of breast cancer and my father's pancreatic cancer. What an inspiration he was to me; he visited with me both at the LCC and at GSMC. I truly believe he is with our Heavenly Father now reeping his reward! Good Shepherd Medical Center had a wonderful friend in Dave Henderson, as he shared thousands of hours with so many oncology patients, sharing his love of God in Christ, holding up their hopes and dreams, as he held his. He will be missed so much, and his legacy will always be a beacon for other chaplains to follow, caring, sharing, loving, praying, laughing, and living, realizing that each day is indeed a precious gift. The news of Dave?s passing came with great sadness and great joy, sadness for his family and friends but great joy for Dave and his Lord and Savior because I know without a doubt that he is in the arms of God. "Buckethead" as he is affectionately known in this home, was a wonderful man and I thank the Lord for the wonderful family that he raised, and we have been so blessed to know.
