Darrell M. Thompson's Obituary
Funeral services for Darrell M. Thompson of Lake Cherokee will be 2 PM Saturday, December 17, 2011 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Burial will follow in Danville Cemetery in Kilgore. Visitation will be from 1-2 PM Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Thompson died Sunday at his residence at Lake Cherokee.
Mr. Thompson was born on February 8, 1949, in Longview, Texas to Dan and Carolyn Thompson. He was a 1967 graduate of Pine Tree High School and attended Kilgore College 2 years. Mr. Thompson worked for General Dynamics Satcom Technologies in Kilgore as a designer for over 10 years. Prior to General Dynamics he worked 25 years as a Draftsman for Cherco Equipment Co.
Darrell was a charter member of the East Texas Treasure Hunters Association of Longview and was an avid metal detectorist. He also had an ardent interest in Native American archeology and travelled around the local countryside in search of Indian relics.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Joyce; one brother Danny and his wife Karon; 4 half-brothers, Franklin, Gerald, Thomas, and Ronald; nieces Carla and DeeAnna; brothers and sisters-in-law Eddie and Linda Morrow and James and Vicki Thompson of Longview; along with a host of cousins and friends.
The family request that memorial donations be made to the Humane Society of North East Texas, 303 Enterprise Longview, Texas 75604.
