Darrell Wayne Barker's Obituary
Darrell Wayne Barker, 75, of Longview, TX, passed away in the hospital on Sunday, September 24, 2023.
Darrell was born on September 20, 1948 to Houston and Hertha Barker in Littlefield, TX. After Darrell graduated from Littlefield High School in 1967, he joined the United States Air Force in 1968 and achieved the rank of Staff Sergent with an Honorable Discharge in 1974. Darrell was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
Darrell’s service in the United States Air Force played an important role in his educational opportunities. Darrell applied for and was accepted at the University of Texas in 1972. Darrell graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration with Honors in 1975 and began his professional career with Peat Marwick. Darrell was a Fellow Member of the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.
Darrell met Tonya in 1984 in Shreveport, LA and were married on November 1, 1986 in San Antonio, TX and eventually made their home in Austin, TX. Darrell and Tonya did not have any children.
Darrell, the most devoted and loving husband, leaves behind his wife of 37 years, Tonya, and his brother David (Robin), Muleshoe, TX, mother-in-law Alice (Mickey) Wood, Texarkana, TX, brother-in-law Bill (Linda) Baker, Parker, TX, brother-in-law Michael Baker, Bossier City, LA, and former sister-in-law Shirley Baker, Linden, TX as well as many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Darrell is predeceased by his parents Houston and Hertha Barker, his sister’s Betty Barker and Frances Richardson.
As a longtime resident of Austin, Darrell was an avid Longhorn fan and spent time enjoying golf and billiards. Darrell would not miss a chance to watch his other favorite teams play as well, Dallas Cowboys, San Antonio Spurs, Texas Rangers, Houston Astros.
Darrell was strong willed and gifted with a quick wit. Darrell loved participating in and watching his nephews (Jeffery, Michael and Will) and niece (Chelsea) grow and develop into wonderful young adults. He was very proud of the lives they have created for themselves. Darrell also loved his cats, Chantilly, Sula, Frisco, Neko and Manu
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home at Noon on Saturday, November 25, 2023.
