Darlene Stamp Wooten's Obituary
Darlene Stamp Wooten, 88, passed away June 15, 2024 in Longview, Texas. She was born August 23, 1935 in Lewis, Iowa to Alfred and Ethel (Jipsen) Stamp. Darlene grew up in Southwest Iowa where she graduated from Lewis Highschool in 1953. In high school she played basketball and was very involved in 4-H. At 17, she was elected State President of Iowa Girls 4-H Clubs at their state convention. Darlene excelled at sewing, cooking, gardening, canning and other domestic arts.
She attended Northwest Missouri State College where she pledged Tri-Sigma Sorority and was soon "pinned" to her fraternity brother Lester Dean Wooten. They married May 27, 1956 in Atlantic, Iowa and were happily married for 62 years before his death in 2017. They enjoyed going on cruises, hosting large holiday family gatherings, watching their grandchildren play sports, and fellowshipping with their life-long friends in the Golden Eagles.
Darlene taught elementary school, raised 4 children, assisted her husband in his work in the insurance industry, and later served as a pastor's wife and mother figure to many at Longview Christian Fellowship Church.
She is survived by her children: Leslie (Bob) Cammack, Darla (Joe) McNamara, both of Longview, Diana (Peter) Townes of Chattanooga, TN, and Dean (Kristi) Wooten of Chesapeake, VA; Sister-in-law Barbara (Roy) Duncan of Gallatin, MO. and nieces and nephews in Iowa and Missouri.
She was a much loved Greatma to 17 grandchildren: Benjamin (Virginia) Cammack, Jeremy (Shea) Cammack, Rachel (Charles) Newlin, Hannah (James) Williams, all of Longview, Adam (Julianne) Cammack, Caleb (Bekah) Cammack, both of Tulsa, OK. Kate (Ben) Wallis of Highland Village, TX, Kara (Brian) Beam of Tulsa, OK, Hayley (Bryce) Smolen of Houston, TX, Grant (Taylor) McNamara of Tulsa, OK. Sam (Ashley) Townes of Rossville, GA, Audrey (Lucas) Stegeman of Acworth, GA, Thad (Ale) Townes of Chattanooga, TN, Taylor Townes of Ft. Worth, TX, Kaci and Kaylie Wooten of Chesapeake, VA.
She was also the Greatma of 39 Great-grandchildren: Preston, Marcus, Joel, Adalyn, Colette, and Lena Cammack; Makenzie (Hunter) Cheatham, Abigail, Claire, Joshua and Katherine Cammack; Madison, Morgan, Molly, Meg and Mary Kate Newlin; Dakota, Zoe, Jack, Elizabeth and Wyatt Williams; Theodore and Henry Cammack; Emma, Ellie, Ethan and Emory Wallis; Rhett, Brady and Genevieve Beam; Parker Kate, Kennedy Page, and Presley May Smolen; Joseph and Juliet McNamara; Walker Samuel Townes; Henry and Jack Townes; baby Stegeman.
Darlene just missed meeting baby girl Cheatham, who would have been her first great-great grandchild...
Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, siblings Donald Stamp, Dorothy Stamp Swope and infant sister, Dolores Stamp; and infant grandson, Daniel Dean Wooten.
A celebration of life service for Darlene will be held in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview on Saturday, June 22 at 2 pm.
