To the Family of "Gunny Whyte" So sorry to hear about the loss of Gunny Whyte. My wife knew something was not right when we didn't receive our cherished Christmas Card shortly after Thanksgiving. We began a friendship when we found his dog Simon that got away from him at the dog park. We spent all afternoon trying to locate Mr. Whyte and we finally made contact, he was also out looking for the Dog. We started sharing Christmas Cards and my wife and I looked forward to each year because Mr. Whyte would always share a Patriot Story. He was such a Great Patriot and will be missed greatly. He called us his Christmas Angels, but he was truly the Angel in this story.

My prayers go out to the family of our beloved "Gunny." Our Run For The Wall community will miss him greatly, as he was a staple in Longview every May... saluting every single motorcycle that rode in to the Exhibit Building parking lot. He was always a ball of energy and never met a single stranger. And was proud that he could still wear his dress blues!!! It was such an honor to know this man with such a kind heart and soul. You will never be forgotten, sir!!! Rest In Peace, Marine!!!

I was raised in Longview so I check the obituaries everyday. I am a Marine and work for the Dept of Veterans Affairs in Austin. I saw Gunny's obit and just wanted to say that he is in good hands now.As Marines we all know who is guarding the gates to heaven, so he is in good hands now, I can assure you. Gunny was so kind to us when we lost our Marine son, S. Sgt. John C. Stock, in 2007 and he continued to reach out and be a friend to our family ever since. He came to both my daughters' weddings and receptions in his dress blues and danced every dance. He was one of the finest men we have ever known and his love for veterans and the Marines was always present. It was a gift to our family to have him as a friend. God speed Gunny and Semper Fi.
