Danette Butler Martin's Obituary
Danette (Danny) Martin
Danette (Danny) Martin was born in Tyler, Texas on November 7, 1946 to Ben and Velma Floyd. She grew up in Tyler, graduated from Robert E. Lee High School and went on to become the mother to Jimmy and Jason Butler.
Danny and her husband Gene Martin purchased Lester’s Office Supply in Longview on January 1, 1992. They operated the office supply for a short time and converted it to an Antique Mall at 3420 and 3422 West Marshall Avenue. Danny designated a portion of the store as Danny’s House of Treasures. She was kind enough to let her husband Gene house his collection of military items in the store. They began to rent spaces to dealers. At times the mall housed over 50 dealers. With Danny’s personality and Gene’s knowledge of World War II memorabilia, plus quality antique dealers, the mall was successful for over 24 years. Danny had a smile for everyone.
She became ill a year ago and was no longer able to be active at the mall. Due to her illness, the decision was made to sell the business. The Martins made a good team and made a lot of good friends over the years. Danny passed away on June 12, 2016.
Danny was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Velma Floyd, and her son Jason Butler.
She is survived by her husband, Gene Martin; sister Dolores Price and her husband Art and their children Don Price, Chris Price and Kathy Williams; and sister Diane McDermott and her son Micah. She is also survived by her son Jimmy Butler; step-children Debby Sanders, Randy Martin and his wife Erica, Lori Tillett and her husband Mike, Karin Sears and her husband Brian, and David Martin; grandchildren Bryson Butler, Ashley Sanders, Criss and Heather Martin, Jenni and John Bull, Jeremy and Erika Tillett, Megan and Michael Hodges, Jess Tillett, Kristen, Hannah and Ian Sears, Sarah, David and Samuel Martin; eight great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
