Cyndi was the baby of her family in Ruston, Louisiana. With four older siblings, she might have been just a little bit spoiled. As a child, while her family went to the Church of God, she often went with her lifelong friend Sherri to Southside Baptist Church a block from her house. There she was saved and baptized at 11 years of age. During her years at Ruston High School, she was a captain of the Bearcat Belles dance team. However, at age 17, Cyndi’s long road of health issues began. Her adrenal glands were surgically removed due to the rare Cushing’s Disease. Doctors told her she could never have children, wouldn’t live past the age of 45, and she would have a very difficult life. But despite all that, she held on to her faith in Jesus and kept living.
After graduating high school, Cyndi attended Louisiana Tech University, where she would meet Michael. He first noticed her when she was working at the Tech Bookstore and later serving up chicken spaghetti at Southside. But Cyndi and Michael officially met while both were involved in the Tech Baptist Student Union. She and Michael married November 21, 1981, and they moved to Longview in May 1982. Michael took a job with Eastman and Cyndi started as Assistant Director of Medical Records at Good Shepherd Hospital. Cyndi and Michael became active in church right away, joining the choir at Oakland Heights Baptist before joining the church. Cyndi made numerous friends for life at Oakland Heights and enjoyed serving and being involved a much as she could.
Cyndi became a mother to Katie at age 26, and Clint when she was 32. She loved and was always devoted to her children, serving as a “room mother” when they were in grade school, giving them the best of everything she could, and always making sure they had the biggest birthday and Christmas celebrations every year. Cyndi especially loved being “Nana” to Clint and Ashley’s daughters, Elia and Eisley, and they loved her so much!
Cyndi loved people. She was intentional about calling and keeping in touch with friends and family her whole life, spending much time on the telephone and even more so in her later years. More recently, she would sometimes spend hours on the phone with Katie. She especially loved talking with her daughter, nieces, sisters, and her best friend, Ann Davis. She loved to spoil her granddaughters and send people gifts, showing how much she loved them. She had such a generous heart, and giving gifts was her love language. Cyndi enjoyed decorating her house for the seasons, especially Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas. She also enjoyed cookbooks – collecting, reading and sometimes even using them. She liked to collect a few other things too, particularly Hallmark Christmas ornaments, classic TV show DVDs and Christian books.
Most of all, Cyndi loved Jesus. Though not able to attend church due to deteriorating health and severe pain, Cyndi has been able to worship with many church services online: New Beginnings, Green Acres, and especially Riesel First Baptist Church, where Clint is the pastor. Most recently, Cyndi experienced tremendous grief over the sudden loss of her Katie. Despite all she suffered and through much discouragement, she never lost faith in Jesus. Now Cyndi is completely healed, suffering no more, loving and being loved in perfect peace.
