"Cowboy" Gene Alvin Ables' Obituary
“Cowboy” Gene Alvin Ables, passed away at his residence in Lake Cherokee on April 22, 2017. Mr. Ables was born to Luther and Wilbur Ables on March 1, 1945 in Nacogdoches, Texas. He would later serve his country in U.S. Army during the Vietnam war as the first ever cameraman in the Army.
Mr. Ables is preceded in death by his parents Luther and Wilbur Ables and a sister Barbara Ann Boles. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ables; Son Joshua Ables; and Sisters, Marie Bartsch, Laris Williams, Betty Solise, and Ginger Poskey. As well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Ables was an avid fisherman and hunter. He taught classes on gun safety for the Parks and Wildlife Department. His hobbies included making handmade knifes for hunting and professional photography. Mr. Ables was a proud Elder and Member of Centre Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be held at Centre Presbyterian Church on Monday, April 24, 2017 at 11 am with the Reverend John Woodard officiating. The family will have a time of visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place immediately following at Elderville Cemetery.
In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or to Centre Presbyterian Church located at 15760 State Highway 322 N Longview, Texas 75603.
