Connie Garrett Howerton's Obituary
Connie Lee Howerton, 74, went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, March 5, 2022. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on October 1, 1947 in Dallas, Texas to Basil and Faye Garrett. She is preceded in death by her husband, John and her brother Basil Garrett and sister Celesta Williams. She is survived by her children, Rhonda Allen (Scott), Raynell Clingman (Russell), Rayshell Purifoy, Raina Tachias, and John Howerton (Danielle), and grandchildren Sarah, Christian, Jesse, Brooks, Shelby, and Isabelle, and nieces and nephews Mary Fair, Kathy Williams, Deborah Fulgham (Les), Stephen Garrett, Shauna Ward (Bill), and many beloved cousins and friends she loved very much.
Connie loved the Lord, her family and her country. She prayed for them all by name every day. She was an excellent cook and gardener, and it was not unusual to see random strangers stop to take pictures of her beautiful yard and gardens. She was also a talented decorator and loved the arts, fine dining, and travel. She loved nature and animals and had pet parrots and particularly loved Pomeranians.
She was passionate about politics and served as the Chaplin for the Republican Women of Upshur County and worked many elections and campaigns.
In her later years, she enjoyed doting on her beloved granddaughter, Isabelle, and took her on many adventures. They were two peas in a pod! Swimming, slumber parties, trips to the library, shopping, watching her perform in plays and piano recitals and ballets, taking her to dance classes and picking her up from school brought her great joy!
The family will welcome friends Wednesday, March 9th at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, Texas at Noon. Funeral service is at 1:00 Wednesday, March 9th at Rader Chapel with a graveside service immediately following at Rosewood Park.
