Colleen Barbara Alexander's Obituary
Colleen Barbara Alexander, beloved wife and sweetheart, mother, Nana, and friend, passed away on Sunday April 14, 2024, at the age of 87. She was surrounded by loved ones in her own home, which she called "Heaven on Earth".
Colleen was born on March 8, 1937 to Ernest Harkett Younger and Alice Agnes King Younger in Gregg County Texas. After graduating from Spring Hill High School, she devoted herself to serving her family. In her spare time, she wrote love letters to her G.I. sweetheart. She married the love of her life, Royden Edwin Alexander, on September 20, 1958. They had two children, James Michael and Jana Michelle Alexander.
Above all, she cherished her role as Mother. Her family was her number one priority and her home was her haven. She exemplified a life of service. She held many callings in the church, serving in the Relief Society, Primary, as Activities Chair, and Nursery Leader.
Colleen was an expert seamstress and ran a successful sewing business from the comfort of her home. She was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing and painting. She was a wonderful cook and baker, passing on many well-loved recipes to be enjoyed for generations to come.
Colleen is preceded in death by her devoted husband, Royden Edwin Alexander, parents Ernest Harkett Younger and Alice Agnes King Younger, brother Eugene Younger, in-laws Willie Hamilton Alexander and Zelma Fern Alexander, daughter-in-law Kimberly Jane Alexander, granddaughter Tara Vanessa Alexander, great granddaughter Jennifer Maddison Alexander, siblings Ernie Younger, Jimmy Younger, Joe Younger, and brother-in-law Harold Alexander.
Colleen is survived by her son James Michael Alexander, daughter Jana Michelle Dunaway and husband Robert Glenn Dunaway Jr; grandchildren James Michael Alexander Jr and wife Elizabeth Ann, Jacob Matthew Alexander, Krystina Renea Haas, Joshua Daniel Dunaway and wife Rebekah Nicole, Whitney Nicole Kofoed and husband Stephen Mitchell, Brandon Scott Dunaway; great grandchildren Mackenzie Alexander, Vanessa, Alice, and Corbin Alexander, Alexandra and Vera Haas, Jace and Jude Dunaway, Kamille and Stafford Kofoed; many extended family members, including sisters Patricia and Frances, brother Doyle; brother-in-law Dana Alexander; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Saturday, April 20, 2024 at 10 am. Burial will follow at Kelsey Cemetery in Gilmer. The family will receive friends at Rader Funeral Home in Longview from 5 to 7 pm Friday.
