Dickey was like "Bigger than Life" quarterbacking at Riverfield in the early 70's, especially to a young athlete who looked up to those great athletes older than me and my peers. I'll always remember when he and George Barefield took me and Stuart King to the Astrodome to watch a weekend series between the Astros and the Dodgers in the summer of 1974. I got All-Star pitcher Don Sutton's autograph, and we saw two pro games! Dickey drove all us down there, as he was the only one old enough to drive, besides George. And he coached our team in Dixie Boys in Rayville. He knew what he was doing, as his father had taught him well. He was tough, but cared about his players, so we wanted to win for him, and his father. They both knew how to make men out of boys. With fond memories, Clay Mott
