Funeral services for CMDR C.M. ?Bill Scales, 85, of Longview will be held at 2 PM Saturday, October 22, 2005 at Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. Kevin Wittmayer and the Rev. Carol Petty officiating. Entombment will follow in Rosewood Park?s Chapel Mausoleum under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Mr. Scales proudly served his country with the United States NAVY as a pilot in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. For his dedicated service, the NAVY will present full military honors at his crypt-side service. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Friday, October 21, 2005 at the funeral home 1617 Judson Road. Mr. Scales was born on October 18, 1920 in Paris to Clyde Marvin, Sr., and Rebecca Ruth Wyatt Scales. He passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2005 at Havencare Nursing and Rehab in Longview. At only nineteen years of age, Mr. Scales graduated from Sam Houston State University, with a Bachelor of Music degree. His first teaching assignment was in Corpus Christi where he met the love of his life, Dorothy ?Diji? Roberts. They married in 1943. At the end of the War, he and Diji moved to Shreveport, LA., where they owned and operated Riverside Galleries. They retired in 1989 to Longview where they founded what is now known as Opera Longview. A loving husband, father, grand father, and great grandfather, Mr. Scales was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nancy Jane Shaver. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy ?Diji? Scales, of Longview; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Sharon Scales of Lees Summit, MO., Richard and Gayle Scales of Dothan, AL., Thomas Edward and Jodie Scales of Saudi Arabia; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and sister, Frances Wade of Woodsboro. Those serving as pallbearers include: Bert Roseland, Richard Miller, Dr. Gerald Mullikin, Charles Patterson, Gene McWhorter, and Patrick Todd Scales. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made in honor of Mr. Scales to: Trinity Episcopal Church, 906 Padon, Longview, Texas 75601 and Opera Longview, 400 North 2nd St., Longview, Texas 75601.
