Clayton A. Smith
Clayton Ashford Smith passed away May 9, 2017, at Good Shepherd Hospital after a brief illness.
Clayton was born February 21, 1969, in Longview. He was a 1987 graduate of Longview High School and a proud member of the Big Green Marching Machine Lobo Band. Clayton played the tuba in the band. His nephew is following his footsteps, playing the tuba also. Clayton attended Baylor University.
Clayton’s passion was fishing and deer hunting. He grew up fishing on Lake Cherokee with his grandfather Curtis G. Howard. Clayton learned to shoot a gun at an early age and loved the family’s deer lease in the Texas Hill Country founded by his great grandfather Fred Ashford. He loved the out of doors and all of nature. His favorite pastime was teaching his nephew Johnathan all the aspects of hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his mother, Fredna Howard Harris and John T. Harris of Longview; his sister, Shelley L. Couch; his niece, Katherine E. Couch; and his nephew Johnathan R. Couch all of Forney. Clayton’s uncle and aunt are Raymond and Donna Howard of Dallas.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church Chapel in Longview on Saturday, May 13 at 11am. The family will receive friends and loved ones beginning at 10am at the church.
Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Medical Center foundation.
