Chester Miller's Obituary
Funeral services for Chester L. Miller, 63, of Lake Cherokee, will be 1 PM Monday in the Rader Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Gary Orr and Reverend John H. McKay officiating.
The family will greet friends at Rader Funeral Home, Longview, 4 PM to 6 PM Sunday.
Mr. Miller died Friday afternoon in a local hospital.
A native of Winona, Mississippi, Chester was born November 16, 1941 to Chester L. and Ersal Daugherty Miller. He attended the University of Arkansas school of Business Administration and graduated from Mississippi College with a B.S. in Economics. After graduation he went to work for Swift Edible Oil Co. as a Territory Representative, where he exceeded sales quotas each year and became Regional Sales Manager, Specialty Fats, Regional Sales Manager, Tank Products, National Sales Manager, Tank Products, National Manager, Food Processor Sales, then to Regional Sales Manager, where he was over a 29 member sales team. In 1977 he moved to Lou-Ana Foods, Inc and was their Vice President Commodity Operations and rebuilt their commodity sales and trading operation. In 1979 he became Director of Oil Purchasing for Frito-Lay, Inc. He progressed to Di-rector Commodity Purchasing, Director Agricultural Commodities, Vice President Agricultural Commodities, Vice President Commodity Purchasing. During his time with Frito-Lay, he organized the oil purchasing function from scratch, managed the commodity purchasing group which included oil, seasonings, bakery ingredients and fleet requirements, Restructured the potato purchasing organization, consolidated the corn operations, established the agricultural purchasing section, managed the purchasing of publicly traded commodities and conceived and initiated the idea of developing and commercializing a unique oil for food processing.
Chester had served as a government lobbyist, served on Agricultural Committee, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Washington, D.C. and was Elected Vice Chairman of Snack Food Association, Washington, D.C.
Chester had lived in Longview since 1991 moving from Dallas.
Chester was preceded in death by his father, a brother and a son: Chet Miller. He is survived by his wife: Blanche of Longview, Daughter: Melanie Miller and husband John of Aubrey, TX; Daughter in Law: Lori Miller of Anchorage, Alaska; Grandchildren: Andrew Friddle and wife Jeanie, Matthew Friddle and John Marcus Miller; Great Grandchild: Andrew Melton Friddle, Jr; Mother: Ersal Miller of Longview; Brothers: Ira G. Pope and wife Delores of Chesterfield, Mo. And Robert M. Miller and wife Jonell of Lexington, TN; Number of nieces and nephews.
