Chester Max Moore's Obituary
Memorial services for Chester Max Moore, age 81 of Laneville, will be held Saturday March 3, 2012 at 2:00pm at the First United Methodist Church in Laneville with Rev. Dime Manning and Rev. Thomas Hill officiating. Private family burial will take place at the New Salem Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Rader Funeral Home of HendersonChester Max Moore was called home by our Precious Lord on Monday, February 27th. Max, as we all knew him, was born on January 20th, 1931 to Alton and Exa Moore in Laneville, Texas and was the middle child of three children, all of whom are deceased. Max is survived by his wife, Sylvia of 58 years and four loving children, Chuck Moore Jan of Memphis, Tennessee, Jan Aitken Ken of Missouri City, Texas, Lance Moore Lourdes and Penny Shephard Tom of Austin, Texas. Max was the proud Grandfather of 10 grandchildren: Kenne Aitken, Matt Parker, Curtis Moore, Laura Allen, Ashley Obando, Darcy Aitken, Lauren Moore, Lana Hejret, Jordan Shephard, Dylan Shephard; 10 great grandchildren and two nephews Bobby Moore Euline, Jerry Moore Elizabeth and a foster sister Delores Gage Dale.After stringing some of the first telephone lines throughout Texas and some of its bordering states, Max eventually worked himself into management and served as the Manager of Etex Telephone Cooperative in Gilmer, Texas from 1958 to 1972. While in Gilmer, Max was very active in the community. He served as President of the Gilmer Kiwanis Club in 1971 and 1972; he was a member of the Gilmer Little League Baseball Association from 1962 to 1971 and served as its president from 1964 to 1968. He also served on the Upshur County Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the East Texas Yamboree Association from 1963 to 1970. After his retirement from Power and Telephone Supply in 1991, he served as president of the Board of Directors for the Laneville Volunteer Fire Department and also President of the South Rusk County Water Supply. Max was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and has served in various offices of church boards throughout his life. Max enjoyed life to its fullest and when his health permitted, he participated in a lot of outdoor activities. He was an avid fisherman and gardener and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with all his family, friends and neighbors. Max's largest accomplishment besides his family, was his involvement in the Independent Telephone Pioneer Association and the Texas Statewide Telephone Cooperative Association. At different times in his career, he served as president of both of those organizations and was proud of his accomplishments and the advancements that were made in the industry during his years of involvement. His distinguished service was recognized with his induction into the Texas Independent Telephone Pioneer Hall of Fame in 2000.
