Chesley Leon Simmons, Jr.'s Obituary
Funeral services for Chesley Leon Simmons, Jr. 68, of Longview, will be held at 2pm Friday, June 29, 2018 at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church of Longview.
Chesley passed away peacefully Monday morning at his home. He was born on June 24, 1950 in Longview to Mary Katherine and Chesley Leon Simmons, Sr. Chesley graduated from Pine Tree High School in 1968. He went to Kilgore College and was a drummer in the band. He then attended the Dallas Art Institute to study painting. After returning to Longview he worked for his father Leon. Chesley eventually became a concrete superintendent. He was an accomplished harmonica player and performed with many well-known musicians, live and in the studio. He won the Texas Harmonica Blowout three times.
Chesley was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Katherine and Chesley Leon Simmons.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Emily Hight Simmons, his children; Chesley Leon Simmons III, Justin Marcus Simmons and his wife Anna, and Pasche Jade Simmons. Four precious grandchildren; Madison Gail Simmons, Aidan Marcus Simmons, Morgan Jade Simmons and Scarlett Rose Potter. He is also survived by his brother, Jerry Simmons and wife Suzy, and his sister, Cecile Craft.
The family would like to thank Sheryl Alligood of HeartsWay Hospice for the wonderful care she gave Chesley. Sheryl went above and beyond the call of duty.
The family requests that donations be made to HeartsWay Hospice or St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in lieu of flowers.
