Cherry Ruth Barnes' Obituary
Funeral services for Cherry Ruth Davis Barnes, 82, of Longview Texas, will be at 2:00pm Tuesday December 14, 2010 at Rader Funeral Home of Longview with Pastor Jay McCasland and Pastor Scott Schulik officiating. Burial will follow at Lakeview memorial gardens cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview. Visitation will be from 5:00pm to 7:00pm Monday December 13, 2010 at Rader Funeral home.
Cherry went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday morning, December 11, 2010. She was born June 1, 1928 in Marshall, Texas to Georgia Mae McPherson and Julian Ray Davis. Her childhood was shared with her brothers Archie and Alvin Davis and her sister Trannie Mullenix. After graduating from St. Mary?s Academy of Marshall, Texas she went to work at Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. in Longview and retired after 35 years. It was in Longview, Texas where she met and married her soul mate and life companion Benny Laverne Barnes on June 2, 1948.
Cherry was and active member of the Mobberly Baptist Church and a dedicated volunteer at Longview Regional Hospital for many years. She enjoyed playing Kino for over 50 years, loved to shop, travel and spend time with her many friends and family.
Cherry was preceded in death by her spouse, both parents and brothers, a niece Joanne Davis and her beloved cat Scooter of over 20 years.
She is survived by her loving and devoted daughter Melody Gaye Barnes of Longview, Texas; her sister Trannie Mullenix of Lindale, Texas; nephew, David R. Williams Jr. and his wife Darcy of Hideaway, Texas; niece, Sharon Kaye Hill and her husband Bobby of Carthage, Texas; niece Linda Kaye Tufts of Tyler, Texas; niece Kathy Psencik and husband Ernie of Whitehouse, Texas; nephew, Curtis Davis of Napa Valley, California; nephew, Michael Davis; niece Karen Davis; nephew, John Davis of Picayune, Mississippi; sisters-in-law Norika Davis of Japan and Billie Davis of Picayune, Mississippi. She is survived by numerous great nieces and great nephews; life-long friends George and Martha Joseph, June Bridger, Inez Deutsch, and Bobbie Sanford. She is also survived by her loving cat Shaston.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Hill, David Williams Jr., Kurt Husar, Mark McDaniel, Jarrett Hill and Gentry Hill. Honorary pallbearers are George Joseph, Eric Joseph, Tom Stone, Randy Robinson, Ronnie Robinson, Ernie Psencik, Michael Williams, Dickie McDaniel and Ricky Bates.
The family would like to thank Sherry Jones, loving care giver, for her dedication to Mrs. Barnes.
