Charlie George Myers Jr.'s Obituary
Charlie George Myers, Jr. was born December 14, 1925 in Childress, Texas. He passed away April 19, 2015 in Longview, Texas. He was 89 years old. Born to Charlie G Myers & Laura Lee Oates, the family soon moved to Kilgore where he grew up. He loved to go to the professional baseball games that were held in Kilgore. He learned to work as a carpenter at the side of his father. He was in boxing, choir and Texas State Guard in high school before he dropped out to join the Navy. He served in Hawaii in the Seabees. Upon returning to Kilgore he worked as a carpenter and in the oil field. He loved to skate, which is where he met his future bride, Mildred Juanita (Peggy) Rucker. They married Jan 20, 1947 and had seven children. Moving to Longview Charlie worked for the US Post Office as a letter carrier, retiring after 34 years in 1991. He used to walk 26 miles a day delivering the mail. He loved horseback riding and John Wayne Movies. He liked to travel and visit family, he also returned to Hawaii. Charlie proudly received his high school diploma from Kilgore HS in 2002. He was a regular blood donor. He also volunteered many hours in the past 25 years, working at the Angel Tree for the Salvation Army. Charlie was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Annie Wright Myers, his wife of 63 years, Peggy Myers, infant son Gregory Scott Myers, sisters: Flora Kitchens, Rovera Stephenson, Louise Hollingsworth, brothers: L.E. Myers, James Wright, Roy Lewis Wright, Curtis Wright, son-in-law: Scott Thrasher. He is survived by sister: Billie Pat Chreene (Flower Mound), daughters and sons-in-laws- Charlsie and Ken Futrelle (Sedro Woolly WA), Terri Thrasher (Longview), Becky and Mark Murray (Longview), sons and daughters-in-law: Matt and Colleen Myers (Howell, UT), Larry Myers (Sedro Woolly WA), Jay and Deanna Myers (Longview), 25 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren (plus on due in July), 2 great great grandsons, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be at Rader Funeral Home, Friday, May 1, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. Visitation will be Thursday, April 30, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 at the funeral home.
