Services for Charlie Drew Thomas, 89, of Longview, will be held at 10 AM Friday, January 23, 2004 at Calvary Baptist Church with the Reverends Richard Jones, J.S. ?Slim? Sullivan officiating. Burial will follow at 3:30 PM at Old Town Cemetery in Haynesville, Louisiana with the Reverend Mike Fritscher, grandson, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview, 1617 Judson Road. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday, January 22, 2004 at the funeral home.
Mr. Thomas was born on January 5, 1915 in Haynesville, LA., to John and Willie Mae Thomas. He passed away on Tuesday afternoon January 20, 2004 at his residence.
Mr. Thomas graduated from Haynesville High School where he was All State in football his junior and senior years and All Southern his senior year. He attended Centenary College, in Shreveport, LA., on a football scholarship. He married his high school sweetheart, Christine Baucum, and would have celebrated 70 years of marriage on May, 18th. Mr. Thomas owned and operated C.D. Thomas Plumbing Company which he passed to his son and then grandson and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Longview. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Mr. Thomas was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Charles Edward Thomas, and Larry Drew Thomas. He was loved and will be missed by his wife, Christine, daughter and son-in-law, Cynthia and John Paul Birdsong, son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Rexanne Thomas, daughter-in-law, Gloria Thomas, eight grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, one brother, two sisters, and many friends.
Honorary pallbearers will be the Friendship Sunday School Class of Calvary Baptist Church and Gary Smith.
