Charles Wayne Williams' Obituary
Charles Wayne Williams 81, of Longview, Texas, passed away Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at his home on Lake Cherokee. He was born September 7, 1933 in Bogata, Texas to Robert Williams and Inez Lee. He was an outstanding athlete, especially football at Bogata High School and Paris Junior College. He married his college sweetheart, Margaret Bean Williams, July 31, 1953 prior to attending Trinity University in San Antonio on a football scholarship.
Charlie received a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Trinity University in 1954. He went on to receive a Master’s in Educational Administration from East Texas State in Commerce in 1959.
Charlie served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1957. He and Margaret moved to Longview in 1957, where he coached at Pine Tree for several years. In 1973 he became co-owner of East Texas Sports Center where he retired in 2003 after 30 years.
He served as the commissioner for Longview Boys Baseball for 28 years. He continued working with Dixie Baseball organization, and at the time of his death was the Assistant State Director for Dixie Youth Baseball.
His favorite hobby was spending time with his family at the lake and watching all the activities his grandchildren were involved in.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Charlie was a loving and supportive husband and father. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Margaret of 61 years; his son Sam and wife Jeannie of Longview, TX; his daughters Kay McWherter and husband Mark of McGregor, TX and Julie Henderson and husband Gary of Colleyville, TX. Grandchildren, Nathan McWherter and wife Melissa of Liberty Hill, TX; Ryan McWherter and wife Margi of Allen, TX; Nolan McWherter and wife Katie of Montgomery, TX; Kelsey and Stephanie Williams of Dallas, TX; Kenneth Williams of Austin, TX; Lauren, Sarah and Andrew Henderson of Colleyville, TX. Great-grand children, Hayden and Dylan McWherter of Liberty Hill, TX.
Funeral services will be Friday, December 5, 1014 at 10 a.m. in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home with burial following in Rosewood Park.
The family requests memorials be made to the Longview Boys Baseball Assoc. Box 5288, Longview, Texas 75608 .
The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Rader Funeral Home.
