Charles Vernon Duke
Services for Charles V. Duke, 83, of Longview will be held at Ten O?clock a.m. Wednesday April9, 2003 at the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home 1617 Judson Road with the Reverend Jonathan Jehorek officiating. Burial will follow at Two O?clock p.m. at Chapelwood Memorial Gardens in Texarkana. Mr. Duke passed away Saturday April 5, 2003, after suffering a stroke.
Mr. Duke was born October 29, 1919 in Lafayette, Texas to Elmer and Ruth Duke. He was raised in the Cox community and attended Gilmer High School. After 30 years of service, he retired from Dillard?s in 1987. Mr. Duke was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War 11. He was a 32nd degree mason and a member of Border Lodge #672.
Mr. Duke loved to travel and had the kindest of hearts. He took great pride in his two sons and his three beautiful granddaughters. He touched many lives and will be missed by all who were blessed to have known him.
He is survived by his two sons, Charles V. Duke, Jr. and his wife Shelley of Dallas; and William Duke and his wife Julie of Longview; three granddaughters, Elisha Duke of Richardson; Jennifer Allen of Dallas; and Claire Duke of Longview; daughter-in-law, Kay Duke of Oklahoma City; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Parker of Uvalde and Bernice Williams and husband Dan of San Diego, Ca; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Emma Duke; and a sister, Louise Rankin.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday April 8, 2003 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
