Charles James "Jimmy" Simmons' Obituary
Services for Charles James “Jimmy” Simmons, 87, of Longview, Texas, will be at 2 PM Saturday, September 10, 2016, at Macedonia Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Rosewood Park Cemetery. Pastor Keith Kelley will officiate the service.
Jimmy Simmons passed away on Thursday September 8, 2016.
He was born February 16, 1929, in Shreveport, LA., to Minnie and Raymond Simmons. He was married to Edna Alexander on March 5, 2011. Jimmy graduated from Greenwood High and attended LSU.
Jimmy was a lifelong grocery man. His career spanned 45 years starting as a salesman in Shreveport LA, and ending as a senior executive in Little Rock, AR. He was respected in the business and made lifelong relationships. Jimmy held positions at The Stedman Co., Malone & Hyde, Affiliated Foods of Louisiana and Affiliated Foods of Arkansas. His passion for the business began in his father’s grocery store in Greenwood.
The joys in his life were his family, friends, and church. Dad loved playing doms, especially “42”. He was a big Texas Rangers fan, enjoyed talking politics, and reading. Jimmy liked to take road trips with Edna.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Bogue Simmons and sister Elmarae Simmons Spigener. He is survived by his wife Edna Alexander Simmons, four sons and daughters- in-law, Jim and Sherry of Richardson, Bart and Martye of Dallas, Blake and Carolyn of Katy, and Eric and Gizell of Lafayette, LA. He is also survived by stepsons; Ronnie Gleason, Kevin Gleason and Claudette, stepdaughter Deborah Allen and Jim. His ten loving grandchildren and six step-grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren, and 6 step great grandchildren; a large number of nieces, nephews; and numerous friends. Special recognition is reserved for lifelong friend, Walter Maples.
Pall Bearers will be his grandchildren; Jeff, Jeremy, Grant, Trent, Nicole, Hunter, Doug, Andrew, Hannah, and Megan.
The family requests memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, 4656 Page Rd., Longview, TX 75605.
