Mr. Charles Franklin McBride's Obituary
Charles Franklin McBride passed away July 30, 2014 at home in Longview, TX after a lengthy illness.
He was born July 15, 1928 in Oil City, La to parents Nick and Nellie McBride. In 1946 he left home to join the Marines. During his time in the Marines he was stationed at Camp Pendleton and also in Oahu, Hawaii. He was trained as a sharp shooter. He returned to Louisiana in 1949 where he met the girl of his dreams, Mary Helen Ferguson. Charles and Helen were married on July 2, 1950 in Shreveport, La where they began their family. They had two daughters, Janet Nell McBride and Priscilla Anne McWilliams before moving to Rosenberg, Tx for Charles' work as an electrical engineer for Rio Engineering. In 1973, Charles and family moved to Longview, Tx where he started his business, Cathodic Rectifiers Inc. In the many years he spent running his business he also taught corrosion technology classes and seminars at Kilgore College, UT at Austin, Oklahoma University and West Virginia. After his retirement in the early 1990's Charles and Helen spent their time camping and staying at their lake house fishing, gardening, birdwatching and enjoying being with family. Charles was a longtime member of the Masonic lodge in Shreveport and also a church Deacon for many years. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Helen McBride of Longview, Tx, daughter, Priscilla McWilliams and husband, Fred of Plantersville, TX, daughter Janet McBride of Longview, Tx, grandson, Kevin Scott of Richmond, Tx, granddaughter, Angela Bagwell and husband, Ben of Plantersville, Tx, granddaughter, Rachel McBride Baracaldo and husband, Diego of Longview, Tx and several great grandchildren. He is also survived by his in laws, the Fergusons, who saw him as a brother. Services will be held in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 10 a.m. with Bro. David Badders officiating. Burial will follow at Rosewood Park. Family visitation will be at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. The family would like to give a special thanks to Taquoia “Sissy” Lynch, Ericka Manning and Eva Thomas, who without them Charles would not have been able to enjoy his time at home. They would also like to thank Debbie Westbrook, RN of Beacon Hospice. Special thanks to Bobbie Allison, RN for her love, care and support at both rehab and home.
