Jack H. Lanier, Jr.
"Brother Chuck" was always an inspiration to me, and I remember when he served with the Florida Baptist Convention in Jacksonville when I was a teenager.
I had long finished college and served in the Air Force, married and moved with our family to Longview and joined Oakland Heights Baptist Church here in Longview where Chuck and his wife joined soon thereafter with Brother Chuck coming on staff as Minister of Education.
Brother Chuck and I soon discovered that we had so much in common, both having lived in Florida and also that he was from Okmulgee, Oklahoma where my mother's side of the family was from. In fact, one of his brothers who was an associate minister at First Baptist, Okmulgee came out to my mother's parent's ranch just outside of Okmulgee when my grandparents got to where they were limited on getting out, to pay them a very treasured visit.
I will always remember Brother Chuck by his firm handshake and always taking time to visit with me in a special way at Oakland Heights Baptist Church. He truly lived life to the fullest, and now is in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. God speed, Brother Chuck, until we meet again in that great dwelling place called heaven!
