Charles J. Allen
Funeral services for Charles J. Allen, 83, of Longview will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, December 29, 2009 in the Chapel of Rader Funeral Home of Longview with the Dr. Charles Barham officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hills Cemetery. He passed away, Saturday, December 26, at his residence in Longview.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Allen was born in the Mulberry Springs community March 3, 1926 to Odell and Lula Allen. He was a lifetime resident of the Longview/Hallsville area and was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church and was a devoted husband and loving father and grandfather. Mr. Allen was an avid fisherman and hunter and was a member of the Upshur County Coon Hunters Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife Anna Joyce Allen; brother, Melvin Allen; brothers-in-law, Rufus Jackson and Billy Andrews; and sister Ida Belle Hathhorn.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Shirley Allen of Longview; daughters, Wanda Donaldson and husband Buster of Longview and Karin Denise Bayne of Arlington; son Charles Gary Allen and wife Carla of Hallsville; step-daughters, Jari Carlisle, Vicki Moore, Teresa Reynolds and J'Nell Smelley; brother and sisters-in-law, Clyde and Grace Allen and Patsy Allen; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maude and Arthur Owens of Longview, Nellie Jackson of Hallsville, and Norma Andrews of Shelbyville, TX; granddaughter, Shannon Kay Comer; great grandchildren, Nathan Carl Allen, Collin Taylor Bayne, Briley Comer, Brenna Comer, Natalie Allen and Hailey Allen; and step-grandson, J. W. Smelley.
