"Papa" Charles B. Davis Sr.'s Obituary
Charles B. Davis, Sr., 82, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ February 5th 2016 at his home with his loving family by his side. Mr. Davis was born December 23, 1933 in Nacogdoches Texas. His parents C.B, and Ruth Davis of Nacogdoches Texas and wife Suzanne Davis preceded him in passing. Charles graduated from Nacogdoches High School. Later he worked a variety of jobs including hospital x-ray technician, offshore rig worker, life insurance sales, deputy sheriff, TV reporter for KTRE, radio DJ at KEEE and a paint salesman. In 1969 Charles joined the Gulf Group Insurance Company as an insurance adjuster in Tyler. He moved his family to Taylor Texas when he was promoted to the manager of Gulf Group Insurance, Austin. Charles completed the FEMA National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) authorizing him to work as a NIFP claims adjuster (storm trooper). His work took him all over the United States to major catastrophes including hurricanes, tornados, floods and earthquakes for the next 40 years until he retired from insurance adjusting. Charles then purchased a truck and hauled hot-shot loads for Acme Trucking around the United States until his health started to decline.
“Papa” Charles proudly volunteered with fire departments where he started serving on the Nacogdoches Fire Department at age 16. He also served on the Harrison County Emergency Services Board and was a volunteer fireman at West Harrison and Harleton Fire Departments.
Mr. Davis honorably served his country in the Army National Guard and was called to active duty during the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962.
Charles was a third generation Mason and was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason in Milam Lodge No. 2 in Nacogdoches Texas and a member of Longview Lodge No. 404.
Charles was a Christian and a member of Fellowship Baptist Church of Kilgore Texas. He enjoyed listening to bluegrass/gospel music.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife Nora Davis of Longview, his children Linda Barnes and Craig Harwart of Gilmer, Texas, Chuck Davis and his wife Rene’ of Diana, Texas, Ken Davis and his wife Carla of Hallsville, Texas and Deana Davis Smith of Savanna, Georgia; Step children Robin McDaniel, of Seguin, Texas and Kevin Davidson, of Santa Fe, Texas; grandchildren, Tesla Lantz, Kaylee Davis Bishop and Cory Davis and great-grandchildren Sophia Davis, Remy Bishop and Taylor Lantz.
There will be a Celebration of His Life service at 2pm, Saturday February 13, 2016 at Fellowship Baptist Church of Kilgore Texas.
In lieu of flowers the family ask donations be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, Kilgore Texas in the name of Charles B. Davis, Sr.
