Catherine ''Catie'' Kennemer's Obituary
Services for Catherine ''Catie'' Kennemer, 80, of Longview, will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, February 26, 2002 at the Wesley McCabe United Methodist Church with the Reverend Carl Lundberg and Reverend Spurgeon Dunnam officiating. Interment will follow in Rosewood Park Cemetery under the direction of Rader Funeral Home of Longview.
Mrs. Kennemer died February 23, 2002 in a local nursing home after a battle with cancer.
She was born in Caddo, Oklahoma on November 2, 1921 to Alma C. and Grover C. Broadrick. She spent her early years in Amarillo, TX and then the family moved to Longview when she was in her teens. Catie graduated in 1939 from Longview High School and then attended Bish Mathis Institute where she was a member and graduate of the Alumni Association of B.M.I.
Catie is retired from and was Vice President of First Federal Savings and Loan Association being employed there from 1962 until 1983. She was active in many community and church organizations being a charter member of Wesley McCabe United Methodist Church, having served on the Administrative Board as well as chairman of various commissions. She was also an active member of the John Wesley Sunday School Class at Wesley McCabe.
Mrs. Kennemer served as past president and secretary of the East Texas Area Council of Camp Fire Girls. She was a member of the Pine Crest Country Club, Longview Community Theatre, Department 56 Collectors Club, Kilgore Community
Concert Association, and Keno Club. She was a participant in the Meals on Wheels Program as well as a member of the Board of Directors of Asbury House Child Enrichment Center. She was also an active member of the Dorcas Bible Study Club having served as a past president and secretary. In 1999 she was honored with a Certificate of Achievement for Women of Distinction.
Mrs. Kennemer is survived by her daughter, Sandra Kaye Arlidge of San Diego, California; daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Phillip Owens of Hallsville, Texas; granddaughters, Jayci Lather and her husband, Kenny, Janna Beam and Tiffany Duhon and her husband Darrell; stepson, Larry Kennemer; stepdaughter, Karen Kennemer; and two step-grandchildren, Leslie and Neal Kennemer, all of San Antonio, Texas; and many nieces and nephews and a host of beloved friends.
Mrs. Kennemer was preceded in death by her brother, Carroll C. ''Buck'' Broadrick and husbands, Travis G. Horton, J. O. Parker, and Lewis C. ''Clint'' Kennemer.
Pallbearers will be James Kennemer, Tom Newton, Jim Wallace, Charles Powell, Ray Glenn Davis and Rick Johnston.
Memorials may be made to the various funds at Wesley McCabe United Methodist Church or to Asbury House Child Enrichment Center of Longview.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8 PM Monday.
