Cary Cap Field's Obituary
Cary Cap Field passed away on November 8, 2017 of natural causes. Born in Longview, Texas on September 3, 1959 to Nolan “Rink” and Sandra Field, he is survived by his mother, of Longview; sister, Sherry Field and husband Russ Hodes, of Austin; uncle Charles Evers and wife Susie, of Carthage; and cousins Mike Danforth, wife Carol, of Plano and son Cole; Chris Evers and wife Sharon, of Texarkana; Dawn Zajicek and husband Randy, of Spring; and Laurie Hanna and husband Ed, of Lockhart.
Cap was named for his great-grandfather, Cap Gandy, who always claimed that he had “named himself”. Cap graduated from Longview High School in 1978, where he was a member of the golf team. Golf proved to be a great love in his life, and he spent countless hours as a teenager and adult on the golf course. He spent the first years of his career at Alpine Golf Club and Pinecrest Country Club. Later, as an independent businessman, he lived in Chicago, IL and Little Rock, AR, before returning to Longview. Cap was ecstatic to return to Longview—to family and a wide circle of friends.
Cap treasured opportunities to travel, with New York City, Seattle, Florida, and a recent trip to Europe among his favorites. Sports were another passion. He always watched golf, football—Texas Longhorns and Dallas Cowboys—and Texas Rangers baseball. He was very happy with the recent Houston Astros World Championship.
Always quick with a joke, Cap and his family laughed on a family trip by car to Pensacola with Cap trying out impressions of current comedians all the way there and back. Cap developed a love of the theater that began with a Kilgore College production of “1776” he attended with his sister. He enjoyed Broadway and Dallas Summer Musicals afterwards. He hoped to see “Hamilton” next.
A memorial service celebrating Cap’s life will be held at First United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 25, at 2:00 pm in the Nicholson Chapel.
