Carroll Cole's Obituary
Carrol Leon Cole of Gladewater, Texas, 86, departed this life for glory on Friday, August 31, 2012. He was born on May 6, 1926 in Simms, Texas to Milo and Drucie Garner Cole. He was preceded in death by his parents, 8 brothers and sisters, and a son, Bruce Cole. He is survived by is loving wife of 62 years, Virginia Ford Cole, his brother Charles Cole of San Antonio Texas, his son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Anita Cole of Liberty City, and grandson Aaron Cole, wife Kristine, and great grand children Issac and Wyatt Cole, and grandson Reagan Cole and wife Stacey all of Gladewater, Texas. Carrol Cole was a WWII Navy Combat veteran who was discharged with the rank of Seaman 2nd Class. He served on USS LSM 55 and participated in operations during the Philippine Liberation, Okinawa action, and was a member of the garrison force of Wakayama, Japan and Kure Area, Honshu Japan and was a part of the initial occupation force of Japan. He was one of the first American servicemen to set foot on Hiroshima after the atomic bomb.
Mr. Cole was a welder y trade and a farmer by heart. His greatest treasure was his family, especially his great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their special thanks to nurses and staff of Margaret's House/Beacon Hospice who showed us so much love and kindness.
Visitation will be at Rader Funeral Home in Longview on Monday, September 3, between 4-6 pm. Graveside services will be held Tuesday, September 4, at 11 am at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Longview. Arrangements are under the care of Rader Funeral Home in Longview.
